Administration
The Administration of the Asheboro Police Department includes the Chief of Police, Assistant Chief of Police, and the Administrative Staff. Their responsibilities include the day-to-day operations of the agency, policies and procedures, and Administrative Investigations which ensure the citizens of Asheboro are provided a professional police service.

Mark Lineberry

Chief of Police

Chief Mark Lineberry began his career in 1992 as a patrol officer with the Asheboro Police Department. He has served as a detective in the Criminal Investigative Division and was promoted to Sergeant in 2004. He served as a Detective Sergeant, Patrol Sergeant, and Master Sergeant until he was promoted to Lieutenant in 2008. He was promoted to Captain in 2013, Major on July 1, 2015, Lt. Colonel on April 1, 2017 and Chief of Police on October 2, 2019. Lineberry holds an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Randolph Community College and is a 2009 graduate of Administrative Officers Management Program (53rd Session) at NC State University. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Gardner-Webb University in December of 2015 with a BS in Criminal Justice.

Assistant Chief of Police

Assistant Chief Robbie Brown began his career with the Asheboro Police Department in 1995 as a patrol officer. He has served as a Detective in the Vice/Narcotics Division, Traffic Crash Investigator, Street Crimes Officer, K9 Handler, SWAT Team member and was promoted to Sergeant in 2007. He has served as a Detective Sergeant, Patrol Sergeant, Street Crimes Sergeant, and K-9 Sergeant until he was promoted to Patrol Lieutenant in 2012. He has served as the SWAT Team Commander, Internal Affairs Investigator, and Background Investigator. In July 2015, Brown was promoted to the rank of Captain and completed assignments in Support Operations and Field Operations. He was promoted to the rank of Major in July 2018 and Assistant Chief in October 2019.  Brown holds an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Randolph Community College, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from High Point University, and is a graduate of North Carolina State University's Administrative Officers Management Program (AOMP) 56th session. Assistant Chief Brown has received the FBI-Law Enforcement Executive Development Association’s Trilogy Award after successfully completing the following FBI-LEEDA courses: Supervisor Leadership Institute, Command Leadership Institute and Executive Leadership Institute.

Jay Hanson

Major/Investigations

Major Jay Hanson began his career in law enforcement with the Asheboro Police Department in 1998 as a patrol officer.  He later served as a Street Crimes Unit officer, Vice/Narcotics detective, K9 handler, SWAT team member, field training officer, general law enforcement instructor, and specialized firearms instructor. In 2008, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant and served in both the Patrol Division and again in the agency’s Street Crimes Unit.  During this time, he also assumed the role of Internal Affairs investigator, as well as background investigator for police applicants. Hanson was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in 2013, where he served in the Patrol Division and later in the Criminal Investigations Division.  In 2019, he was promoted to the rank of captain and currently oversee the agency’s Support Operations Division. In 2021, he was promoted to the rank of major.  Hanson holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Appalachian State University and Master of Justice Administration from Methodist University.  He is a 2011 graduate of North Carolina State University’s 59th Administrative Officers Management Program.

David Wagner
Captain/Support Operations

Captain David Wagner began his career with the Asheboro Police Department in 1996 as a patrol officer. He has served as a field training officer, Street Crimes Unit officer, Vice/Narcotics detective, Criminal Investigations detective, and a SWAT team member being promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2012. He served as a Patrol Sergeant and Detective Sergeant in Criminal Investigations until being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2016. He served as a Patrol Lieutenant and later in the Criminal Investigation Division. During this time, he also assumed the role of Internal Affairs investigator, as well as a background investigator for police applicants. In 2020, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and currently oversees the agency’s Support Operations Division. Wagner holds an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Randolph Community College. He graduated from the Law Enforcement Management and Leadership program at Randolph Community College in 2014.  

Byron

Byron Hill
Captain/Field Operations

Captain Byron Hill began his career in law enforcement with the Asheboro Police Department in 2004 as a patrol officer.  He later served as a Field Training Officer, law enforcement instructor, Vice/Narcotics detective, School Resource Officer and SWAT Team member.  Captain Hill held previous supervisory positions as the Community Resource Team Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Vice/Narcotics and Special Enforcement Team Lieutenant and SWAT Team Commander.  Captain Hill is a veteran of the U.S. Navy.  Captain Hill holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Gardner-Webb University and is a 2018 graduate of North Carolina State University’s 80th Administrative Officers Management Program.

The Asheboro Police Department's Executive Assistant is a civilian position, and is responsible for providing administrative and clerical support for the department which plays a vital role in our overall success. Executive Assistant Karen Henley supports the Chief of Police and Records Unit in their day-to-day operations.
