The Fire Inspections Bureau issues permits for all fire protection equipment such as sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, hood suppression systems and standpipe systems. Also, operational permits are issued for tents and canopies, amusement buildings, carnivals and fairs, exhibits, trade shows, pyrotechnics, etc. As required by the NC State Fire Prevention Code, these permits are required before the start of the project.

Permittees are encouraged to utilize the Permit Portal to apply for permits. Permits typically will be provided to permittees via electronic mail using the email address provided with the permit application. By providing an email address, permittees are consenting to receive the permit via electronic mail unless the Department is notified that the permit is to be provided in a different manner.

To apply for a permit, simply:

Click on the desired application type from the portal.
Enter the property information and, if applicable, search for your contractor information. Contractors or design professionals who have previously done work in the city should already be the system; others will be added upon submission of a permit application. Once a permit is issued, the Contractor Code that can be used to request inspections will be displayed on the permit. You do not need to contact the Inspections Department to be added to the system or receive a contractor code.
Provide the requested information and click submit. Supporting information may be required (i.e. plans or drawings); upload the necessary file(s) using the “Choose Files” button.
Once submitted, city staff will review the request and contact an applicant about any additional information needed. Required fees will be communicated via email and a secure link for payment provided.

Open Burning

Since the City of Asheboro provides a pickup service for leaves, branches and other plant growth, we do not issue burning permit and it is against the law to burn such materials. Also, it is not permitted to burn garbage, tires, scrap building material, wire, paints or household chemicals.

Bonfire

A Fire Permit can be obtained for a bonfire after the site has been approved for such activity.

Recreational Fire

A recreational fire shall not be conducted within 25 feet of a structure or combustible materials. The fire cannot exceed 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet in height.

Fire Department Key Box Ordering Information

The Asheboro Fire Inspections Bureau requires approved Fire Department Key Boxes for buildings equipped with fire protection systems and in other situations as determined by the Fire Code Official.

To ensure compatibility with department access procedures, key boxes must be purchased from one of the following approved manufacturers:

Property owners and contractors are responsible for ordering the correct model and coordinating installation in accordance with the Asheboro Fire Department Key Box Policy requirements.

Key boxes shall be installed at the main entrance unless otherwise approved by the Fire Code Official. The required contents will be determined by the Fire Code Official and must be in place prior to occupancy or at the time of acceptance of the fire protection system.
