As a life-long resident of Asheboro, David Smith wasn’t content to simply sit back and enjoy everything the town had to offer. Instead, he decided to get involved and give back to the community. He has been a Kiwanian for over three decades, serving as both past president and past Lt. Governor. He has volunteered with Communities in Schools and has served on the Crimestoppers board. His involvement in City government includes 12 years as a councilmember, including 4 as Mayor Pro Tem. Smith was elected Mayor in 2009.

Smith says he enjoys serving on City Council because it gives him a chance to be involved in crafting a plan and developing a vision for the future of Asheboro, with the ultimate goal of making Asheboro the best place to live, work and play. As Mayor, he hopes to complete the construction of Zoo City Park, increase employment opportunities by helping local businesses expand and recruiting new employers to the area, and enhance the quality of life for the community.

“What I love most about Asheboro is the citizens’ generous spirit and love for the community,” said Smith

Mayor Smith lives in Asheboro with his wife Lorraine.
